ISAThe Iranian Sociological Association, as a member of the International Sociological Association and in line with the statement made by this scientific institution, demands international action for the immediate and unconditional stop of the war and any violation of the rights of the Palestinian people in Gaza.

It is obvious that any war anywhere in the world is undesirable and unaccepted; but what is happening in Gaza today is not only war but the disregard and suspension of all the human legacy, ethical principles, and good sense that is accumulated and agreed upon over the years to minimize the harms of war.  What makes the situation in Gaza so horrific, and the full-force opposition to it on an international level and even by scientific institutions so necessary, is the disregard of all the agreed-upon protocols in place to ensure a minimum of human rights protection in war conditions.  What we see in Gaza is a clear case of the suspension of all the international mechnisms to prevent human catastrophes. We as scientific institutions are obliged, as are all others, to protest against this massacre of civillians that is occuring in front of our eyes while the known mechanisms and institutions seem incapable of stopping this catastrophe.  Faced with the astonishing passivity of international institutions regarding this absolute human catastrophe, stemming from the will to protect national interests and the current international order, we as scientific institutions have no choice but to reflect and amplify the voice of human protest against all that is threatening the very concept of humanity.

The Iranian Sociological Association fully embraces the global protest against the human catastrophe in Gaza and asks all national and international scientific institutions, especially sociological associations everywhere, to pressure their governments and international organizations into taking firm and immediate action against this catastrophe. The Iranian Sociological Association as a scientific institution feels responsible to hold scholarly discussions regarding the historical, cultural, and social dimensions of the existing conflict in Palestine, the whys and hows of the catastrophic situation at hand, and possible ways of exiting it, in due course.  Therefore, we see any pressure on scientific institutions to curtail their freedom of expression as nothing but obstacles in the way of investigating, understanding, and explaining the truth.
