Specialized Committees

Social Policy

Since the early twentieth century, thinkers started paying their rather full attention to issues concerning well-being of the individuals in groups, and providing theoretical answers as to the social needs. Thus, momentum was gathered for establishing disciplines dealing with welfare in the Western academia. The ensuing concerns that led to establishment of a discipline as such accompanied the formation of the welfare state in the West.

Methods and Methodology

The committee seeks to make efforts geared to clarify methodological logic of the social research, increase the precision of arbitration methods in the social science, and raise epistemological credibility (such as data validity/reliability)  of knowledge as produced within the framework of social sciences in Iran. In addition, it is one other overall orientation of the committee to strive to institutionalize pluralism in epistemology and methodology within the social science.

Sociology of Science and Knowledge

The significance of science and technology and the study of its many facets, as well as its positive and negative social indications are increasingly becoming a focus of discussions carried out by politicians, the public, as well as the intellectuals. Reaching sustainable development and comprehending objective and subjective aspects of life-quality require an appropriate understanding that embraces how the social life-world is formed by modes of production and by knowledge, science and technologic achievements.

Industrial Sociology

The developing nations have been preoccupied with industry and industrialization. Iran began its industrialization two decades prior to that of Fee Jee Japan, by Premier Amir Kabir during the reign of the Qajar dynasty. The Committee on Industrial Sociology seeks to conduct research aimed at studying problems and historical obstacles of industrialization. Moreover, we invite all researchers in this area to help us in removing the industrial constraints and in reaching the following goals.

Urban Sociology

Urban problems are today widely considered to be among the most urgent of our social problems. Therefore, it is not an exaggerated statement to claim that the very survival of the Iranian culture and civilization depends, to a large extent, to the degree of ability and competence, that we can demonstrate as a nation, to manage our urban centers. The Scholarly-Specialized Committee on Urban Sociology, to shoulder its share of burden, seeks to help explain and analyze urban phenomena.
