Urban problems are today widely considered to be among the most urgent of our social problems. Therefore, it is not an exaggerated statement to claim that the very survival of the Iranian culture and civilization depends, to a large extent, to the degree of ability and competence, that we can demonstrate as a nation, to manage our urban centers. The Scholarly-Specialized Committee on Urban Sociology, to shoulder its share of burden, seeks to help explain and analyze urban phenomena. Yet, given the urgency and complexity of such problems, here at the Iranian Sociological Association (ISA), we have an insatiable enthusiasm to attract all researchers who are somehow involved in urban studies. Thus, all specialists with an interest in urban issues and problems such as sociologists, urban planners and designers, economists, geographers and urban anthropologists are invited to join this committee.
Objectives of the Scholarly-Specialized Committee on Urban Sociology
· Provision of assistance to enhance the scientific knowledge in the area of urban problems
· Exchange of scientific ideas among thinkers active on urban problems
· To promote new theoretical and applied research on urban problems
· Convening critique and discussion sessions on current urban policies
An academic department on urban sociology was established in 2002 (1381, the Iranian calendar) headed by Dr. Parviz Ejlali, faculty of the Institute for Management and Planning Studies to be accessed at the independent site:
